South African Customs treat personal effects differently from household effects. As such ‘Personal’ effects consist of items solely of a personal nature, such as clothes, shoes, books, CD’s, cassettes, letters, photos etc. These consignments can normally be cleared on a form P.1.160.

Household effects in addition also require form DA304 to be completed. If you are a returning resident a certified Returning Resident Affidavit needs to be completed and supplied along with your passport. Immigrants will be required to produce your passports together with Residence and or Work permit.

Documents
All shipments must be accompanied by a packing list or inventory. Customs clearance documents will be supplied by our agents to the consignee. Many South African homes have separate mailing and street addresses and both of these should always be provided.
